The Sixth Sunday of Easter and Holy Communion
A Centering Thought
“May our eyes focus rightly on Christ…before the need to please others, before church, and before the busyness of Christian life. Those things will surely have their place, but they will be most valuable if put in their proper position.” ~Traci LaRussa
Call to Worship
Leader: We thank you, praise you, and shout joy to you.
Congregation: You, God, rule over all the earth from your sacred throne.
Leader: Through the prophets, you spoke to us, telling us of Christ who is all in all.
Congregation: As it was written, Christ suffered and died, but you raised Christ from the dead.
Leader: Christ walked again with disciples, telling them of God’s glorious kingdom.
Congregation: Christ ascended into heaven and was seated at God’s right hand, so that Christ could be present everywhere at all times with all power.
Leader: Today, we praise Christ and glorify Christ’s name.
All: Blessed be your name, O Lord, and blessed be this time of worship.
Hymn of Praise: “Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty”
Verse 1: Holy, Holy Holy! Lord God almighty! Early in the morning our song shall rise to Thee. Holy, Holy, Holy merciful and mighty. God in three persons, blessed Trinity.
Verse 2: Holy, Holy, Holy! All the saints adore thee. Casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea. Cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee, God everlasting through eternity.
Prayers of the People: One Word Prayer: “In prayer, it is better to have a heart without words than to have words without a heart.” ~Mahatma Gandhi
Sung Response: “God Is a Good God”
God is a good God. God’s a great God. God can do anything but fail. God has moved so many mountains out of my way. God is a wonderful God.
Children’s Time: “In the World, but Not of the World”
Koinonia: A Care-Full Community (Koinonia is the New Testament word for “fellowship.”)
Welcome Song: “You Are Welcomed Here” (Led by the Prayer and Worship Team)
You are welcomed here. You are loved here. You are a part of God’s family. The table’s prepared, and you know that we care. Come on, you are welcomed. Come on, you are loved.
Come on, you are welcomed in this place (repeat 3 times).
Offering: We give with open-handed generosity because when we give, we are most like God.
Offertory Song: “You Can’t Beat God Giving”
You can’t beat God giving, no matter how you try. And just as sure as you are living, and the Lord is in heaven on high. The more you give, the more God gives to you, just keep on giving because it’s really true that you can’t beat God giving, no matter how you try.
Prayer of Thanksgiving: We thank you, Lord, for these gifts. Amen.

Invitation to Discipleship and Membership
*The Invitation to Discipleship and Membership takes diverse forms at The Open Church. Feel free to present yourself to our community during this time. You also may acknowledge your desire for commitment to God and membership in our congregation to any of our ministerial leaders during the fellowship hour after the worship service.
Invitational Hymn: “I Love to Tell the Story”
Verse 1: I love to tell the story
of unseen things above, of
Jesus and his glory, of Jesus
and his love. I love to tell the
story, because I know ‘tis true;
it satisfies my longings as
nothing else can do.
Refrain: I love to tell the story, ‘twill be my theme in glory, to tell the old, old story of Jesus and his love.
Verse 2: I love to tell the story, for those who know it best, seem hungering and thirsting to hear it like the rest. And when, in scenes of glory, I sing the new, new song, ‘twill be the old, old story that I have loved so long.
Purpose Pledge: We live on purpose. We love on purpose. We lift on purpose.
Closing Song: “The Lord Is Blessing Me”
The Lord is blessing me right now, right now. I can feel God’s mercy as beneath the cross I bow.
You may not be able to see what God has done for me. But the Lord is blessing me right now, right now.
