A Centering Thought
“Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” -- Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The Open Church in Praise
Call to Worship
One: Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.
All: Lord, increase our faith!
One: We will not fret about the storms since Jesus is the captain of our souls.
All: In faith we know that the winds and the waves obey Jesus’ will.
One: Without faith it is impossible to please God.
All: With mustard-seed faith, we can move mighty mountains. Lord, increase our faith!

The Open Church in Prayer
The Open Church in Vision-Casting
All: The Open Church is a sacred place where those who are hurting, confused, and in need can find healing and hope, regardless of color, culture, or creed.
One: It is a wide place where “Abraham’s family”—Christians, Jews, and Muslims—can dialogue with Buddhists and Bahá’ís and where Hindus can dialogue with Humanists.
All: The Open Church is a joyful place where children, seniors, migrant workers, homeless people, and scholars eagerly learn from and teach one another.
One: It is a safe place where varied ethnicities and capabilities, genders and sexual identities, social and economic groups gather in peace to break bread at Christ’s Communion Table, as we break down stereotypes.
All: As sacred siblings born to our Heavenly Father who is Divine Mother of us all, we practice radically inclusive love that proclaims and builds up the “kin-dom of God.”

Song of Preparation
Invitation to Discipleship: My Faith Looks Up to Thee
Verse One: My faith looks up to Thee, Thou Lamb of Calvary, Savior divine! Now hear me while I pray, take all my guilt away, O let me from this day be wholly Thine.
Verse Two: May Thy rich grace impart strength to my fainting heart, my zeal inspire; As Thou hast died for me, O may my love to Thee, pure, warm, and changeless be, a living fire.
